What families tell us after their sessions

SW

Somchai Wattanachai

Muang, Khon Kaen

"My mother passed away in May and we had no idea where any of her papers were. We spent three weeks searching before a friend mentioned keepsaketasd. The Records Tidy-Up session made sense of everything within one afternoon. The folder system they helped us set up is something we could hand to any family member and they'd understand it immediately."

"I booked the education session because I genuinely did not understand what an Amphoe office does versus what a solicitor handles. The explanation was clear and patient. I left with a solid understanding of the process and a note of exactly which office to visit first. I will say the session ran a little over the scheduled time, but I appreciated that they did not rush through my questions."

"We chose the full programme for my father-in-law's records. Several sessions over two months. The team was very steady — nothing rushed, nothing alarming. The personal wishes document they helped him write was something he had wanted to do for years but never found the right format for. He felt relieved after the last session. That is honestly the best way I can describe it."

"What I valued most was that they were completely clear about what they do not do. They never pretended to be legal advisers. When the conversation moved toward questions about land appraisals, they immediately explained that was outside their scope and told me which department to contact. That kind of honesty is rare."

"I brought three siblings to the education session with me. Being there together meant we all heard the same explanation of the process, which stopped a lot of the disagreements that had been coming up in family conversations. I think that was actually the most useful thing — getting everyone aligned on what the process looks like before talking to a lawyer."

"My husband and I are in our sixties and we arranged the full programme for our own records — not because something had happened, but because we wanted to have everything in order while we were healthy enough to do it properly. The personal wishes document was particularly meaningful for us. Very glad we did it now rather than leaving it for our children to sort out."

Case Studies

Three families, three different situations

These accounts are drawn from real sessions and represent common situations families bring to keepsaketasd. Names and details have been changed for privacy.

Case Study 01

Finding order after an unexpected loss

The Situation

A family in Muang district lost their father suddenly. He had handled all family finances. Documents were spread across three locations: a tin box at home, a filing cabinet at a relative's house, and a storage box under a bed. Nobody knew what was in any of them or which documents were current.

What keepsaketasd Did

A Records Tidy-Up session brought everything together in one place. Each document was identified, dated where possible, and assigned to a labelled folder. A summary sheet noted what was present, what appeared to be outdated, and which items should be verified at the Land Department and Amphoe office before engaging a solicitor.

The Outcome

The family arrived at their solicitor's office three weeks later with everything organised and labelled. The solicitor commented that they were the most prepared family she had seen that month. The process that followed moved faster as a result.

"We were completely lost when we arrived. By the end of the afternoon, we knew what we had and where everything was. That alone was worth it."

Case Study 02

Preparing before talking to a solicitor

The Situation

Two siblings needed to deal with their mother's property in Khon Kaen after her passing. Neither had any prior experience with Thai succession processes. They had been told by neighbours that they needed a solicitor, but they did not know what questions to ask or what documents to bring.

What keepsaketasd Did

Both siblings attended an Estate Organisation Education session together. The session covered the general succession process for property in Thailand, the difference between an administrator and a beneficiary, and which offices handle which steps. They left with a plain-language note summarising the process and a list of the documents they needed to locate.

The Outcome

When they met their solicitor the following week, they understood the terminology, had the right documents ready, and asked informed questions. The solicitor's first appointment lasted ninety minutes rather than the two to three hours she typically needed for families coming in without preparation.

"I actually understood what the solicitor was saying. Before the session I would have just nodded and hoped for the best."

Case Study 03

A couple preparing while they still could

The Situation

A retired couple in their late sixties had three adult children and a range of assets: a house, a small rental property, two vehicles, and several insurance policies. They wanted their affairs in order while both were healthy and able to participate, and they wanted to put their personal wishes in writing.

What keepsaketasd Did

The Inventory, Archive & Wishes Programme was conducted over five sessions across two months. A complete, indexed archive was built. A personal wishes document was drafted in plain language. A gap analysis identified two insurance policies that needed updating and an expired vehicle document. The final session included a full referrals sheet for their solicitor and accountant.

The Outcome

The couple felt a clear sense of relief at the end of the programme. Their children were informed about the archive location and structure. The couple subsequently updated two insurance policies and engaged a solicitor to formalise their wishes — steps they would not have known to take without the gap analysis.

"We didn't know the insurance policies were out of date. That was genuinely useful to find out while we could still do something about it."
